What we are looking for:

"Men and women who want to share their knowledge and experience with future and current small business owners."

Recruiting is at the heart of providing quality counseling. We focus on filling a full range of business disciplines and attracting volunteers representing the faces and ethnicities of our area.

While the majority of our counselors are retired, we welcome those who are still working. Our younger volunteers help keep us current in today's technology environment and fast paced business practices.

Many counselors become involved in our workshop program and this helps them learn additional skills. We include an educational portion at our interesting and informative monthly chapter meetings. The meetings also add to the cohesion of our membership.

New counselors are expected to become involved in chapter activities. This includes counseling, workshops, attending meetings and committee participation. When necessary, these requirements can be modified to fit a personal schedule.

During fiscal year 2008, Midlands SCORE had over 50 members who contributed over 5500 hours, 30% counseling and 70% other activities. We held nearly 1,000 client sessions and attracted more than 400 attendees to our 15 workshops.

Nationally, over 11,000 men and women volunteer in 370 offices throughout the country.

* Enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to the success of others.

This will help to show you different counseling approaches as well as the importance of good listening, interviewing and problem-solving practices.
